World Cup Kabaddi 2014: Indian men, women win World Cup Kabaddi titles

The Indian men's team continued their winning streak by clinching the fifth Kabaddi World Cup title, while the women's side bagged the crown for the fourth consecutive time, here on Saturday.
At a grand finale held at Guru Gobind Singh Multipurpose Stadium, the Indian men's team defeated Pakistan 45-42 for the fourth time, while the women team beat New Zealand 36-27 for the second time in a row.
History repeated itself as both teams in the men and women sections had clashed during the finals of Fourth Kabaddi World Cup at Ludhiana last year and in both the matches, India had emerged victorious.
The men's finals between India and Pakistan was always going to be a close contest and it turned out to be one as is evident from the scoreline.
It was raiders Sandeep Singh Surakhpur (16) and Sandeep Luddar (10) who were the top scorers, while stopper Yadwinder Singh Yada "Surakhpur" also registered 5 points and Gopi secured 3 points respectively to help India's cause.
For Pakistan, raiders Shafiq Ahmad Chishti, Mohammad Irfan and Akmal Sajjad Dogar scored 15, 13 and 6 points respectively, while stoppers Musharaff Javed Janjua secured 4 points for his team.
In the women's final, the Indian eves started on a positive note and lead right from the beginning. Their dominating performance helped them to lead 18-14 at the half time.
Indian raiders Priyanka Devi and Ram Bateri scored 8 points each and Sukhwinder Kaur scored 7 points, while stoppers Anu Rani secured 4 while Ritu and Jasvir secured one point each.
For Kiwis, raiders Lani Perese scored 12, Motu Elizabeth secured 9 and Pomare registered 4 points, while stoppers Titu and Tekawa scored one point each.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal were also present.

Punjab: After being brutally beaten, African student to go back home in a coma

PATIALA - Yannick Nihangaza has been in coma for two years now, fighting for his life at a private hospital after some youths assaulted him in Jalandhar where he was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science at Lovely Professional University.

The young man from Burundi in Africa will now be airlifted to his country as the Punjab government has agreed to bear the cost, Rs. 75 lakh.

Having arrived in India with the dream of becoming a computer engineer, he remains on life-support (ventilator) system.

His father Nestor Ntibateganya, who has been in India to take care of Yannick, is in trauma as he has exhausted his resources in shuttling between offices to get help.Yannick was attacked when he was going for a party on April 22, 2012.

Seven of the nine attackers, who were students, have already been sentences to 10 years’ jail, while the remaining reportedly fled to Australia.

As the case was highlighted by the media and was seen as having racial overtones, the Punjab government promised to airlift Yannick apart from bearing all expenses of his medical aid.

Deputy commissioner Priyank Bharti on Thursday informed the victim’s father that the government has finally arranged an air ambulance and Yannick would be taken from the Patiala Civil Aviation Club for his journey to Brumic Medical and Research Centre, Burundi.

The date is not final. “Yannick will be sent to his home country in the next few days, as per advice of doctors,” informed the DC.

Nestor thanked the DC, and narrated how his dreams were shattered.

“I sent my son to this country to study. He was a harmless, great child and outstanding student who was constantly busy learning the skills needed for his future... He was not out on the street to learn how to kill, steal or do other kind of evil like that done to him by these killers who are the citizens of your great nation,” he had written chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on June 20, 2012.

“I am writing to you as a father writing to another father, someone who has known and experienced love of a child and has given care and love to other human beings like you,” he had said, after which Badal announced to bear all medical expenses of Yannick.

Yannick Nihangaza and the silence of good people

A culture of tolerance towards xenophobia is making many foreign students, especially Africans, feel insecure in India. Will the winds of change blow after the shocking attack on the Burundian student ?

It was in May 2011 that Nestor Ntibateganya first heard about Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar on the radio in his hometown of Bujumbura, Burundi’s capital city.  

“Lovely University put up advertisements in Rwanda and Burundi on the radio and on television to promote the University,” says the 59-year-old economist, sitting in a restaurant in Patiala, completely unmindful that the colour of his skin was the object of curiosity among restaurant staffers and locals.  

Across the road in Columbia Asia Hospital, his 23-year-old son Yannick Nihangaza lies in a coma after he was assaulted on the night of April 21 in a locality in Jalandhar city. “His brain is so severely damaged that I don’t think he will ever be able to study again,” says Nestor. “I really do not know what is going to happen to him.”  

At LPU, Yannick was enrolled in a degree course in Computer Sciences, a decision that his father agreed with, going by India’s skills in the field. Attracted by the “international edge” advertised in LPU’s brochures and websites, Yannick and others from African countries enrolled in Computer Application and Business Administration courses.  

Yannick’s friends who came to the hospital on Thursday, however, spoke of a world quite different from the one promoted by LPU on its website. The university talks of an international environment that “fosters inter-cultural understanding” and promotes “respect and tolerance among people.”  

Edgard Niyomuhoza, a second year BBA student, also from Burundi, says that problems related to food have forced almost all African students to find private off-campus accommodation, essentially putting them in harm’s way.

Rough estimates suggest that 400 to 500 African students study at LPU from countries such as Congo, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sudan and Rwanda. “Despite complaints about the spice levels and of the unavailability of any other kind of food, the University refuses to change the menu. This means we have to stay off-campus and cook our own food,” he says.  

Naturally, as Edgard puts it, “the community of black people is close-knit” and socialises outside campus. It was during such an evening that Yannick fell prey to a mob made up of an “unspecified number” of people, as the First Information Report puts it. “Yannick was running late for the party and was attacked on his way there. There was no reason why,” says Yvan Butare from Rwanda. “We are all very angry. India is a peaceful country, so how can people be so hostile?”  

Lovely Professional University maintains that the incident happened almost 30 km outside campus and disclaims any responsibility. LPU’s Deputy Director Aman Mittal claims Yannick was beaten up in a group clash involving African students and Indians who had nothing to do with the University.  

“Yannick would never provoke anyone. If anyone tried to provoke him, he is the kind that usually walks away,” says Mr. Ntibateganya. “When I read in the paper that Yannick was part of a group fighting with Indians, I was shocked.”  

While Mr. Mittal calls the campus among the “safest in India” with reports of student clashes “never ever” having taken place, a former Indian student at LPU who completed his B.Tech in Computer Science last year said he witnessed gangs clashing in the heart of the campus, with security guards bearing witness.  

“Quarrels usually spark a full-blown fight. Each party would provoke the other asking ‘Why did you come to Punjab’ for instance,” says the student, who requested anonymity. “Once, I saw African students and Indians using iron rods to beat each other. The guards were just standing around.” 

In Yannick’s case, it has been tardy responses or no response from the authorities even after his father wrote twice for help with the medical treatment and to get him repatriated to Burundi. It was only last week, more than two months after the attack, that the Punjab government ordered a probe and provided financial aid of Rs. 5 lakh towards his medical expenses.  

 “I am still finding it difficult to understand how this happened. Perhaps, more African students go to South India to study and not many come to Delhi or Punjab areas. Maybe, that is why…”

Bicycle manufacturing increases in Indian state of Punjab

Ludhiana - Bicycle manufacturing in India's northern state of Punjab is on the rise.

According to the latest figures provided by industry sources, around 50,000 bicycles are manufactured every day in Ludhina City alone.

"Our company started with manufacturing 25 bicycles a day in 1956 and today we manufacture around 20,000 bicycles a day," Ashok Bawa, senior general manager for publicity of Hero Cycles said.

Hero Cycles Ltd. is one of the leading bicycle manufacturers in India.

The price of an ordinary bicycle in the Indian market is 44 US dollars but high-end bicycles are sold at 288 US dollars apiece.

Of late some high-end bicycles, which are imported, could cost up to 2,800 US dollars apiece.

The city has around 4,000 small, medium and big enterprises that are associated with the manufacturing of bicycles and bicycle parts.

Industry sources said that around 300,000 people in the city are dependent for their livelihood from bicycle manufacturing and trading.

"The bicycle manufacturing in Ludhina is 1.12 billion US dollars industry," said Charanjit Singh Vishvkarma, president of the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) Ludhina. "Unfortunately, over the years our exports have decreased and imports increased."

The industry is importing spokes, baskets, hub cones, chains, chain wheels and cranks, steel balls, plastic handle levers, saddle parts, pumps and cables from overseas.

"These items are available at higher prices in domestic market so people import them at much cheaper rates," said Vishvkarma.

He said that 94 percent of the cycles manufactured in city are exported to other states and beyond and only 4 percent are sold in Punjab state.

"People here are not using enough bicycles because they have money to buy four-wheelers," he said. "I wish people would switch to bicycle as a mode of transport to have clean air and an eco- friendly environment."

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are two Indian states where bicycles are in great demand, Vishvkarma added.

The four leading Indian bicycles companies include Hero, Avon, Atlas and TI.

Authorities last year banned bicycles along with hand carts and other non-motorized vehicles during daytime from 174 key roads and streets in the Indian metropolitan city of Kolkata.

The officials said the step was taken to minimize accidents during rush hours in the city's roads.

The ban evoked a sharp criticism from cyclists and activists who were up in arms against the order.

Increasing vehicle numbers and fuel prices have been hitting India hard. Petroleum accounts for one third of India's energy needs and 80 percent of this is imported.

Activists are asking the Indian government to cut its energy demands in order to reduce carbon emissions. Citing environmental concerns, they have urged the government to encourage people to use non-motorized modes of mobility like walking and bicycle riding.

India's leading environmental activist Sunita Narain, of the non-governmental organization Center for Science and Environment ( CSE), lamented that cyclists in Indian cities are being edged out systematically to make way for cars.

Last year she suffered multiple injuries after being hit by a vehicle while cycling on a New Delhi road.

CSE is vocal about people's right to walk and ride their bicycles on the roads in India's urban space.

India produces approximately 10 percent of the world annual bicycle production, which is estimated at 125 million bicycles.

According to UCPMA, the annual domestic demand of bicycles in India is approximately 10 million out of which around 2.5 million is sold to the government for its various welfare schemes. The remaining are exported to African countries and other less developed economies and even a few Western markets.

ਇਹ ਲੀਗ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਕਰਾਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਰਾਬਤਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤੈਅ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਲੀਗ ਦੇ ਅੱਧੇ ਮੈਚ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ 'ਚ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਧੇ ਭਾਰਤ 'ਚ ਖੇਡੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਜਿਹੜੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਵੇਟ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਬੱਡੀ ਕੱਪ ਅਤੇ ਲੀਗ ਨੂੰ ਸਪਾਂਸਰ ਕਰੇਗੀ।

ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸਿਕੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਲੂਕਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਾਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਲੀਗ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਖ਼ਰੀ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਜਲਦ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਅਸੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਸਾਲ ਕਬੱਡੀ ਕੱਪ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਸਾਲ ਲੀਗ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ।
ਗੌਰਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਖੁਲਾਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ 2009 ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜਦੋਂ 44 ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕੇਸ ਦਰਜ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਅੱਜ ਦੀ ਵੋਟਿੰਗ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕੇਵਲ 4 ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕੇਸ ਦਰਜ ਹੋਏ। ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਚੋਣ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵੀ. ਕੇ. ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਰਾਤ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਆਖਰੀ ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੱਕ 70.39 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਮੱਤਦਾਨ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਅੱਜ ਰਾਤ 9 ਵਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਏ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ 69.73 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ, ਖਡੂਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ 68 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ, ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿਖੇ 70 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਤੱਕ ਤੇ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ 72 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ 74.04 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ 71.31, ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ 71 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ, ਫਤਿਹਗੜ੍ਹ ਸਾਹਿਬ 71 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ, ਜਲੰਧਰ 68 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਤੇ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰਪੁਰ 65 ਪ੍ਰਤੀਸ਼ਤ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਪੋਲ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਚੋਣ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਸੀ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵੀ. ਕੇ. ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵੋਟਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਗਭਗ 300 ਈ.ਵੀ. ਐਮ. ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਨੁਕਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਬਦਲੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ, ਜਦੋਂਕਿ ਕੁੱਲ 400 ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਣ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਪਈ। ਚੋਣ ਅਮਲ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਾਪਰੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਬਿਉਰਾ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵੀ. ਕੇ. ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਤੋਂ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਡਾ: ਧਰਮਵੀਰ ਗਾਂਧੀ

'ਤੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਰਸੂਲਪੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਡਾ:"ਗਾਂਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਟ ਵੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਦਿਹਾਤੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਖੇਤਰ 'ਚ ਤ੍ਰਿਪੜੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਬੂਥ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦਾਖਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਈ.ਵੀ.ਐਮ. ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਮਸ਼ੀਨ ਤਬਦੀਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਈ। ਉਕਤ ਮਾਮਲੇ 'ਚ 2 ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੇਸ ਦਰਜ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦਪੁਰ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਗੈਗੋਵਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ 2 ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਕਾਂ 'ਚ ਲੜਾਈ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਸੰਸਦੀ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਖੇਤਰ 'ਚ ਕੁਝ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਮਾੜੇ ਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧਤਾ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਾਵਾਂ ਤਹਿਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਧਾਰਾ 171 'ਚ ਵੀ ਇਕ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਸੰਸਦੀ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਅਟਾਰੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਚੀਚਾ ਪੋਲਿੰਗ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਮੀ ਦਾ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਚੱਲਣ ਦੀ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵੀ. ਕੇ. ਸਿੰਘ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਸੰਸਦੀ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਪੁਰ ਖੇਤਰ 'ਚ ਵੀ 2 ਸਿਆਸੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਮਾਇਤੀਆਂ 'ਚ ਹੋਈ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ 'ਚ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਵਰਕਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਝਗ਼ੜੇ 'ਚ 2 ਗੰਭੀਰ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਬੂਥ ਲਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਵਰਕਰ 'ਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਜ਼ਾਬ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਲੰਬੀ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਬਾਦਲ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ: ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ, ਉਪ-ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ: ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹਰਸਿਮਰਤ ਕੌਰ ਬਾਦਲ, ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੂਬਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਕਮਲ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਘੁਬਾਇਆ, ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ, ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਰਾਜ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਪਤਨੀ ਚਰਨਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੋਟ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੋਟ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਬਣੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਰਣਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਵੋਟ ਪਾਈ ਜਦਕਿ 'ਆਪ' ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਧਰਮਵੀਰ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਵੋਟ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਅਕਾਲੀ-ਭਾਜਪਾ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਦੀਪ ਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ ਨੇ ਮੁਹਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿਚ ਵੋਟ ਪਾਈ। ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਤੋਂ 3 ਵਾਰ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਰਹੇ ਨਵਜੋਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨਵਜੋਤ ਕੌਰ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੋਟ ਪਾਈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਗੈਰ-ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ, 'ਆਪਣੇ ਰੁਝੇਂਵਿਆਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਇਥੇ ਪੁੱਜ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕੇ।' ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਹਲਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਅਰੁਣ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਵੋਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੀ, ਨੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿਚ 19 ਔਰਤਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ 253 ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਚੋਣ ਅਖਾੜੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਿੱਤਰੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਹਲਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਨੇਤਾ ਅਰੁਣ ਜੇਤਲੀ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਕੈਪਟਨ ਅਮਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਹਰਸਿਮਰਤ ਕੌਰ ਬਾਦਲ ਤੇ ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ, ਗੁਰਦਾਸਪੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਨੋਦ ਖੰਨਾ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਜਵਾ, ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਘੁਬਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਨੀਲ ਜਾਖੜ, ਅਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਬਿਕਾ ਸੋਨੀ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਦੂਮਾਜਰਾ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਨੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਤੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਦੀਪ ਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ, ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਗੁਲਸ਼ਨ, ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਜੋਗਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜਗਰਾਈਂ ਤੇ 'ਆਪ' ਦੇ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ, ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਜੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਗਲਾ ਤੇ 'ਆਪ' ਦੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਇਯਾਲੀ, ਰਵਨੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਿੱਟੂ ਅਤੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਸਿਮਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬੈਂਸ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਹਨ।
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਚੋਣ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ
ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ: ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਨੇ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਚੋਣ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਤੇ ਚੋਣ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰ ਲੋਕਤੰਤਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਭਾਰੀ ਗਰਮੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ 'ਚ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਪਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਾਰੂ ਸੇਧ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਯਤਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੋਣ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਚੋਣ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਨਿਰਪੱਖ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਸੁਰੇਸ਼ ਅਰੋੜਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਮੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਸ ਮੰਤਵ ਲਈ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਤੇ ਅਮਨ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਬਹਾਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਠਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ, ਹੋਮਗਾਰਡ ਦੇ ਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ, ਡੀ.ਆਈ.ਜੀ. ਰੇਜਾਂ, ਆਈ.ਜੀ. ਜ਼ੋਨਲ ਤੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹਥਿਆਰਬੰਦ ਬਟਾਲੀਅਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਇਲੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਸੈਲ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪੱਤਰ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਤਨਦੇਹੀ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਪੱਖਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਡਾ: ਧਰਮਵੀਰ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਹਮਲੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਰਸੂਲਪੁਰ ਸੈਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਗ ਰੱਖਿਅਕ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਖ਼ਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਅਕਾਲੀ-ਭਾਜਪਾ ਗਠਜੋੜ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥਕ ਦੱਸੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। 'ਆਪ' ਦੇ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਦੇ ਵਰਕਰ ਸਤੀਸ਼ ਦੇ ਥੱਪੜ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਤੇ ਚੋਣ ਕੇਂਦਰ 'ਤੇ ਕਬਜ਼ੇ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ 'ਤੇ ਮੌਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਪੁੱਜੇ ਡਾ": ਗਾਂਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਲਹੂ-ਲੁਹਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਡੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ।

The Lok Sabha elections going to be held on 30 April, 2014 for all 13 lok sabha seats from Punjab. The main political parties contesting these elections from Punjab are Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Congress. Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP have alliance in Punjab with Akali Dal candidates contesting from 10 seats and BJP candidates contesting from 3 seats. • Lok Sabha candidates from Amritsar :

Amrinder Singh is Maharaja Patiala, is a former Chief Minister of Punjab and current MLA from Patiala assembly contituency. Arun Jaitley is a senior BJP leader. Navjot Singh Sidhu is the current MP from Amritsar and he belongs to BJP.
• Lok Sabha candidates from Anandpur Sahib : Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra of SAD and Ambika Soni of Congress are the main candidates from Anandpur Sahib seat. The existing MP is Ravneet Singh Bittu of Congress. In 2014 elections, he is contesting from Ludhiana.
• Lok Sabha candidates from Bathinda : Harsimrat Kaur Badal of SAD and Manpreet Singh Badal of PPP are the main contestants from Bathinda seat. Congress has not fielded any candidate from this seat and will support Manpreet Singh Badal. Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the current MP from this constituency.

• Lok Sabha candidates from Gurdaspur : Partap Singh Bajwa is the Congress candidate from this seat. He is also the current MP from the same seat. He will be contesting against the Vinod Khanna of BJP. Vinod Khanna is a well known former Bollywood actor and was also a former MP from this seat.
• Lok Sabha candidates from Hoshiarpur : Mohinder Singh Kaypee of Congress and Vijay Sampla of BJP are the main contestents from Hoshiarpur seat. This is a reserved seat in the current elections. The current MP is Smt. Santosh Chaudhary of Congress but she is denied ticket in the current elections.

• Lok Sabha candidates from Khadoor Sahib : Ranjit Singh Brahmpura is the SAD candidate and Harminder Gill is the Congress candidate for Khadoor Sahib seat. Dr. Rattan Singh Ajnala is the current MP.
• Lok Sabha candidates from Ludhiana : Manpreet Singh Ayali of SAD, Ravneet Singh Bittu (MP from Anandpur Sahib) of Congress, H.S.Phoolka of AAP and Simarjit Singh Bains (Independent) are the main contestents for this seat. ਸੰਗਰੂਰ, 29 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ - ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਤੋਂ ਚੋਣ ਲੜ ਰਹੇ 21 ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਸ: ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ, ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਜੈਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਗਲਾ ਤੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਵੱਲ ਪੂਰੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ | 9 ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਿਆਂ ਲਹਿਰਾਗਾਗਾ, ਦਿੜ੍ਹਬਾ, ਸੁਨਾਮ, ਭਦੌੜ, ਬਰਨਾਲਾ, ਮਹਿਲ ਕਲਾਂ, ਮਾਲੇਰਕੋਟਲਾ, ਧੂਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਉਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿਚ 7 ਲੱਖ 53 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ 433 ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਵੋਟਰ ਅਤੇ 6 ਲੱਖ 65 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ 24 ਮਹਿਲਾ ਵੋਟਰਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ 14 ਲੱਖ 24 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ 743 ਵੋਟਰ ਹਨ | ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ 1542 ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਬੂਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ 6168 ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ/ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਣ ਡਿਊਟੀ ਉਤੇ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ | ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਬੂਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਮਾਇਕਰੋ ਅਬਜ਼ਰਬਰ ਨਿਯੁਕਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ | ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ, ਚੋਣ ਰੈਲੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਫ਼ਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਵਿਚ ਘਰ-ਘਰ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਤੋੜ ਯਤਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ | ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਵੋਟ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਆਗੂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਅਤੇ ਰੈਲੀਆਂ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਹੱਦ ਤੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਰਹੀਆਂ | ਵਿਜੈਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਗਲਾ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਸੋਨੀਆ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦੀ ਆਮਦ ਉਤੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਵਿਧਾਇਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਦੀ ਲੱਗਪਗ ਸਾਰੀ ਲੀਡਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ | ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ: ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਅਤੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸ: ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਚੋਣ ਦੌਰੇ ਸ: ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਵਰਧਕ ਮੰਨੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ | ਹਲਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਸਪਾ ਦੇ ਮਦਨ ਭੱਟੀ, ਸੀ.ਪੀ.ਆਈ ਦੇ ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਰਾਮ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ, ਸੀ.ਪੀ.ਐਮ ਦੇ ਜੋਗਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਔਲਖ, ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ (ਅ) ਦੇ ਕਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਰੀਕੇ, ਭਾਰਤੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸੀ.ਪੀ.ਆਈ (ਐਮ.ਐਲ) ਲਿਬਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਬਹੁਜਨ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸੀ.ਪੀ.ਆਈ (ਐਮ.ਐਲ) ਰੈਡ ਸਟਾਰ ਦੇ ਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ ਮੁਸਲਿਮ ਲੀਗ ਦੇ ਮਹਿਮੂਦ ਅਹਿਮਦ ਥਿੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ, ਭਗਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ, ਬਜੇਂਦਰ, ਹਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ, ਜਯੋਤੀ ਦੇਵਾ ਜੀ ਅਨੁਸੂਈਆ, ਧਰਮ ਸਿੰਘ, ਪ੍ਰਵੀਨ ਕੌਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਨੋਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ | ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸਿੰਘ, ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਬਰਨਾਲਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰਲਵਲੀਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ, ਐਸ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਸ: ਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਅਤੇ ਐਸ.ਐਸ.ਪੀ ਬਰਨਾਲਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਓਪੇਂਦਰ ਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਘੁੰਮਣ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਿਰਪੱਖਤਾ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜਨ ਲਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ | ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ 30 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਤ 10 ਵਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਅਤੇ 16 ਮਈ ਨੂੰ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੇ ਅਹਾਤੇ, ਹੋਟਲ, ਦੁਕਾਨਾਂ, ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ, ਕਲੱਬ, ਮੈਰਿਜ਼ ਪੈਲੇਸ, ਬੀਅਰ ਬਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਜਿਥੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਵੇਚੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਲਗਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ |

ਸ: ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਦੇ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ: ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ, ਉਪ-ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ, ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੂਬਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਮਲ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਆਗੂ ਸ: ਬਲਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਾਮੂਵਾਲੀਆ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਹਲਕੇ ਦਾ ਦੌਰਾ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ | ਸ: ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਵੱਡੇ ਸਕੂਨ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਪੁੱਤਰ ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਵਿੱਤ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹਲਕੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਤਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਛੇ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਦਿਨ-ਰਾਤ ਇੱਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ | ਹੈਰਾਨੀ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਕਿ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਨੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ. ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਾਂਝਲਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੋਣ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਤੋਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਦਰੂਨੀ ਮਤਭੇਦਾਂ ਕਾਰਨ ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਰਾਜ਼ ਦੱਸੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ | ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਸਮਝੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਬਰਨਾਲਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਗੂ ਮਹੰਤ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਡੇਰਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਗਾਂਧਾ ਸਿੰਘ, ਮਾਲੇਰਕੋਟਲਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗਾ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਰਸੂਖ਼ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਅਮਰਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਪੀਪਲਜ਼ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੇਤਾ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਦੂਰਾਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਤਾਰਾ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਦੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਜਸਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗੱਜਣਮਾਜਰਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸ: ਢੀਂਡਸਾ ਦੀ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਹਿਮਾਇਤ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ | 'ਆਪ' ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨੇਤਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਰਵਿੰਦ ਕੇਜਰੀਵਾਲ ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਯੋਗਿੰਦਰ ਯਾਦਵ ਰੋਡ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਲਵਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ | ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੋਕ ਗਾਇਕਾਂ ਬਲਕਾਰ ਸਿੱਧੂ, ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਨਿੱਕੂ, ਹਰਜੀਤ ਹਰਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਵਰਗ ਨੂੰ 'ਆਪ' ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵੱਲ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਖਿੱਚਿਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੱਕ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਜੱਥੇਬੰਦਕ ਢਾਂਚਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਕਿਸੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੱਕ ਹੀ ਸੀਮਤ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ | ਪਾਰਟੀ ਧੜੇਬੰਦੀ ਦਾ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਭੋਗ ਰਹੇ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਜੈਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਗਲਾ ਵੀ ਹਾਲੇ ਤੱਕ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੋਣ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੋਰ ਸਕੇ | ਪਾਰਟੀ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ 24 ਘੰਟੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਪੋ-ਆਪਣੇ ਹਲਕਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਮੁਹਿੰੰਮ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਅਸਰ ਵਿਖਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ | ਬਸਪਾ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਮਦਨ ਭੱਟੀ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਠੰਢੀ ਚੱਲ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹਲਕੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਾਖਵੀਂ ਵੋਟ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਦੂਸਰੀਆਂ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰਾਂ ਉਪਰ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਅਸਰ ਪਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ | ਪਿਛਲੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹਲਕਾ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਸਪਾ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਨੇ 69943 ਵੋਟਾਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ | ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ (ਅੰਮਿ੍ਤਸਰ) ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਰੀਕੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੱਬੇ-ਪੱਖੀ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਚਾਰ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਵੀ ਟਾਵੀਂ-ਟਾਵੀਂ ਥਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ | ਮਾਲਵੇ 'ਚ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਤੇ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਛੱਡਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਡੇਰਾ ਸਿਰਸਾ ਵਰਗੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਅਦਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਸ਼ਾਰਾ ਚੋਣ ਨਤੀਜਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਫੇਰ ਬਦਲ ਕਰ ਦੇਣ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ | ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਡੇਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਵਿੰਗਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਨੇਹੇ ਵੱਲ ਸਭ ਦੀਆਂ ਨਜ਼ਰਾਂ ਰਹਿਣਗੀਆਂ |

ਸੰਗਰੂਰ, 24 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ - ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜ਼ੋਨ ਰਿਟਰਨਿੰਗ ਅਫ਼ਸਰ ਕਮ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ 30 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੋ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨੰੂ ਸੁਚੱਜੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ | ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿਲੇ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ ਕੁੱਲ 14 ਲੱਖ 18 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ 457 ਵੋਟਰ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ 6286 ਸਰਵਿਸ ਵੋਟਰ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਪੋਸਟਲ ਬੈਲਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ 100 ਫ਼ੀਸਦੀ ਵੋਟਰ ਸ਼ਨਾਖ਼ਤੀ ਕਾਰਡ ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੋਟਰਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਏ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਹਲਕਾ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਲਈ ਕੁੱਲ 1542 ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਬੂਥ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ | ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਿਊਟੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ 5967 ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਅਤੇ 528 ਮਾਇਕਰੋਅਬਜਰਵਰ ਅਤੇ 104 ਸੈਕਟਰ ਮੈਜਿਸਟੇ੍ਰਟ ਤਾਇਨਾਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੰੂ ਮੋਬਾਈਲ ਫ਼ੋਨ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਪਰੰਤੂ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਸਟਾਫ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੋਬਾਈਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਿਜਾ ਸਕਣਗੇ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਬੂਥ ਨੰਬਰ 130 ਮਾਰਕੀਟ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਇਕ ਸੁਪਰ ਮਾਡਲ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ | ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਨੇਤਰਹੀਣ, ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੰੂ ਵੋਟ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਪਹਿਲ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ 20 ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਬੂਥਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਵੈਬਕਾਸਟਿੰਗ ਰਾਹੀ ਲਾਈਵ ਟੈਲੀਕਾਸਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੰੂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਚੋਣ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਵੈੱਬਸਾਈਟ 'ਤੇ ਦੇਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਸਟਾਫ਼ ਦੀ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਰਿਹਰਸਲ 29 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੰੂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ ਤੇ ਪੋਿਲੰਗ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਨੰੂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਸਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬੂਥਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਰਵਾਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ | ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਵੋਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ 16 ਮਈ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਬਰੜਵਾਲ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਗਤ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ | ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਖੀ ਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੱਧੂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਲੋਕ ਸਭਾ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਘਨ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਅਨਸਰਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ | ਸਿੱਧੂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਸਮੁੱਚੀ ਚੋਣ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਨੰੂ ਅਮਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੂਰਵਕ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ |

253 leaders in fray in Punjab

Chandigarh, April 12
A total of 253 candidates have been left in the election fray in the state as 27 more candidates withdrew their nominations on the last day today.

An official press release said Bathinda had the highest number of 29 candidates whereas Gurdaspur had the lowest 13 candidates.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Supreet Singh Gulati today said 455 nominations were filed by 350 candidates, which were reduced to 280 after scrutiny. He said after the withdrawal of nominations, a total of 253 candidates would contest the poll.

Ropar: Cot, table, green chilli, flute and glass are among the symbols allotted to candidates from Anandpur Sahib constituency. The cot symbol was allotted to Ramesh Rani. Harcharan Singh got flute and Fakir Chand, Gurnam Singh and Baljit Kaur got kite, batsman and ‘Handi’ (cooking vessel).

Simranjit Singh Mann to Contest Lok Sabha Election of Khadur Sahib Constituency

LUDHIANA, Punjab — Sikh nationalist political party Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of Amritsar, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Simranjit Singh Mann, declared its list of nine candidates for upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Monday, March 3, 2014.

According to the list, party president Simranjit Singh Mann will contest the elections of Khadur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency. Other candidates are Master Karnail Singh Narike (Sangrur), Dharam Singh Klaur (Sri Fatehgarh Sahib), Darshan Singh Manuke (Fridkot), Talib Singh Sandhu (Ludhiana), Parminderpal Singh Shukarchakia (Sri Amritsar), Samsher Singh Maloa (Hoshiarpur), Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala (Bathinda), and Pyare Lal Kaler (Jalandhar).

Lok Sabha 2014: Heavyweights prefer relatives as proxy candidates in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: It's family first in Punjab when it comes to fielding covering candidates for the April 30 Lok Sabha polls as major political players like SAD, BJP and Congress are trusting none other than their closest relatives.

Withdrawal of nominations for the 13 seats in the state is on April 12. There are nearly 20 covering candidates in the fray here.

Parties name a covering candidate so that if the main nominee's papers are rejected, the covering candidate becomes its official nominee.

According to the Election Commission website, a majority of the candidates have preferred their spouses as covering candidates.

Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa, in fray from his traditional Gurdaspur seat, has his wife and sitting MLA Charanjit Kaur as his covering candidate.

In Hoshiarpur, Sudesh Sampla has been named as covering candidate for her husband and BJP candidate Vijay Sampla while sitting Congress MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee has his wife Suman Kaypee as cover.

Same is the case in Anandpur Sahib -- Balwinder Kaur named for husband and former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra of SAD and Ludhiana too where BSP's Navjot Singh Mandair filed his papers with wife Jasvir Kaur being the covering candidate.

Union minister Preneet Kaur of Congress, seeking re- election for the third consecutive time from her traditional Patiala seat, is being covered by her son Raninder Singh.

SAD's Deepinder Dhillon filed his papers with his wife Rupinder Kaur as covering candidate from Patiala.

From Jalandhar seat, Santokh Singh Choudhary of Congress has named his son Vikramjit Singh as a covering candidate.

Sitting MP and SAD candidate from Bathinda, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, filed her nomination papers here with her brother and Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia as a cover.

Gurdas Singh Badal, father of Congress candidate Manpreet Singh Badal and brother of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, filed his nomination papers as the covering candidate for Manpreet.

This trend of having a covering candidate from the family was also reflected in Ferozepur, where Krishna Rani has filed as a cover for husband and SAD candidate Sher Singh Ghubaya.

SAD MLA from Bassi Pathana assembly segment, Nirmal Singh, who is husband of sitting MP and party candidate from Faridkot parliamentary constituency Paramjit Kaur Gulshan, filed nomination papers as her covering candidate.

Krishan Kaur, wife of Congress candidate from Faridkot Joginder Singh Panjgrain, also filed papers as the covering candidate for her husband.

3 DCs, 1 Commissioner, 4 SSPs in Punjab

CHANDIGARH - The Election Commission transferred three Deputy Commissioners, one Commissioner of Police and four Senior Superintendents of Police in Punjab on tuesday.

The DCs of Sangrur, Fazilka and Patiala districts have been replaced, an EC official here said, without producing any reason for the reshuffle.

The EC also ordered transfer of Ludhiana's Commissioner of Police, he said adding the SSPs of Ferozepur, Moga, Fazilka, and Mansa districts too had been replaced.

As per an order of the EC, Kavita Singh, IAS, has beenm posted as new Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, Karuna Raju, IAS as Deputy Commissioner, Fazilka, and Priyank Bharti, IAS as Deputy Commissioner, Patiala.

Sanjeev Kalra, IPS has been posted as new Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, he said.

Rahul S, IPS, has been posted as new SSP Ferozepur while S Bhupati, IPS, as SSP Moga, Jagdale Nilambari Vijay, IPS, as SSP Fazilka, and Bikram Pal Singh Bhatti as SSP Mansa.

Punjab DGP Saini proceeds on leave

Chandigarh, April 2 - Punjab Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini has proceeded on leave.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked the Punjab Government to immediately recommend names of three officers for the selection of the new DGP till Saini remained on leave.
Sources said DGP Saini, whose transfer was sought by the Punjab Congress on the plea that he had been chargesheeted in a criminal case, today sent a leave application, which was accepted by the Election Commission. The new DGP was likely to be appointed within a day, said a senior official in the ECI.
The state government has been asked to suggest a panel of three senior-most IPS officers serving in the state. The new DGP will be appointed from amongst them by the ECI.
The state government is reportedly forwarding the names of 1981-batch IPS officer GD Pandey (serving as the DGP-cum-Commandant General of Punjab Home Guards), 1982-batch IPS officer Suresh Arora (serving as the DGP-cum-Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau) and 1982-batch officer Sanjiv Gupta (serving as the DGP Security and Vigilance, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited).
The controversy about Saini arose after Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira repeatedly complained to the ECI, seeking Saini’s removal on the ground that he was chargesheeted by a special CBI court in November 2006 for kidnapping and disappearance of three persons.
Senior Congress leaders, including sitting MPs, had also approached the ECI seeking his transfer, alleging that he enjoyed close proximity to the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister and would not allow free and fair elections.
The Punjab Government had been constantly declining to remove Saini claiming that he had already overseen two elections since his appointment as the DGP. However, with the ECI getting active by gathering its own feedback and then transferring officers, the state government had got enough indication that DGP Saini would also be removed. To avoid that situation, Saini proceeded on leave today.
