Lok Sabha Elections 2014 - MP Candidates List from Punjab


Chandigarh - There are total 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab i.e. there are total 13 lok sabha seats in Punjab. Each parliamentary constituency has 9 assembly constituencies in it. It means that for each lok sabha seat, there are 9 vidhan sabha seats in Punjab. The general elections in India for lok sabha seats are held after every 5 years and last elections were held in 2009. The next elections will be held in April, 2014. The date of Lok Sabha elections in Punjab is 30 April, 2014. The elections in Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab, held on 10 April, 2014. The counting of votes will be done after the voting is held in all parts of India and the date of counting is 16 May, 2014.

Lok Sabha Candidates from Punjab

The Lok Sabha elections going to be held on 30 April, 2014 for all 13 lok sabha seats from Punjab. The main political parties contesting these elections from Punjab are Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Congress. Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP have alliance in Punjab with Akali Dal candidates contesting from 10 seats and BJP candidates contesting from 3 seats. The main contest on most of the seats will be between Congress candidates and SAD-BJP candidates. A list of main candidates from each lok sabha seat is given here.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Amritsar : 
    Capt. Amrinder Singh of Congress and Arun Jaitley of BJP are the main candidates from Amritsar seat. Capt. Amrinder Singh is Maharaja Patiala, is a former Chief Minister of Punjab and current MLA from Patiala assembly contituency. Arun Jaitley is a senior BJP leader. Navjot Singh Sidhu is the current MP from Amritsar and he belongs to BJP.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Anandpur Sahib : Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra of SAD and Ambika Soni of Congress are the main candidates from Anandpur Sahib seat. The existing MP is Ravneet Singh Bittu of Congress. In 2014 elections, he is contesting from Ludhiana.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Bathinda : Harsimrat Kaur Badal of SAD and Manpreet Singh Badal of PPP are the main contestants from Bathinda seat. Congress has not fielded any candidate from this seat and will support Manpreet Singh Badal. Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the current MP from this constituency.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Faridkot : Joginder Singh Panjgraian is the Congress candidate. He is also MLA from Jaiton vidhan sabha constituency. He will be contesting against the sitting MP Paramjit Kaur Gulshan of Shiromani Akali Dal.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Fatehgarh Sahib : Kulwant Singh is the SAD candidate and Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, who is MLA from Nabha assembly constituency, is the Congress candidate from this constituency. The current MP is Sukhdev Singh Libra. He is a member of Congress but is not contesting in the current elections.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Firozpur : Sunil Kumar Jakhar of Congress and Sher Singh Ghubaya of SAD are the main candidates from Ferozepur seat. Sunik Kumar Jakhar is current MLA from Abohar seat in Fazilka district. Ghubaya is the sitting MP.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Gurdaspur : Partap Singh Bajwa is the Congress candidate from this seat. He is also the current MP from the same seat. He will be contesting against the Vinod Khanna of BJP. Vinod Khanna is a well known former Bollywood actor and was also a former MP from this seat.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Hoshiarpur : Mohinder Singh Kaypee of Congress and Vijay Sampla of BJP are the main contestents from Hoshiarpur seat. This is a reserved seat in the current elections. The current MP is Smt. Santosh Chaudhary of Congress but she is denied ticket in the current elections.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Jalandhar : Santokh Singh Chaudhary of Congress, a former cabinet minister and Pawan Kumar Tinu of SAD are the main contestents from Jalandhar seat. Pawan Kumar Tinu was elected MLA in 2012 and represents Adampur seat in Jalandhar district. The current MP, Mohinder Singh Kaypee of Congress is contesting from Hoshiarpur in the current elections.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Khadoor Sahib : Ranjit Singh Brahmpura is the SAD candidate and Harminder Gill is the Congress candidate for Khadoor Sahib seat. Dr. Rattan Singh Ajnala is the current MP.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Ludhiana : Manpreet Singh Ayali of SAD, Ravneet Singh Bittu (MP from Anandpur Sahib) of Congress, H.S.Phoolka of AAP and Simarjit Singh Bains (Independent) are the main contestents for this seat. Munish Tiwari of Congress won in the last elections but is not contesting in the current elections due to health related issues. Manpreet Singh Ayali is MLA from Dakha constituency in Ludhiana district, Raveent Singh Bittu is currently MP from Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency and Simarjit Singh Bains is MLA from Atam Nagar assembly seat in Ludhiana district.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Patiala : Preneet Kaur, a senior Congress leader and sitting MP is one of the main candidates from this seat. Deepinder Dhillon is the SAD candidate.
  • Lok Sabha candidates from Sangrur : The main contestants are Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa of SAD, Vijay Inder Singla of BJP and Bhagwant Mann of Aam Aadmin Party (AAP). Vijay Inder Singla is the sitting MP from this seat.

The last general elections for 15th Lok Sabha were held in 2009. The majority of members of lok sabha from Punjab are from Congress party. Out of total 13 MPs from Punjab, eight MPs belong to Congress party, four are members of Shiromani Akali Dal and one belongs to BJP. In the lok sabha elections held in 2009, Pawan Kumar Bansal of Congress was elected as MP from Chandigarh. He was also Railway Minister. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he is the Congress candidate for the same seat.
